106 Presidents’ Day Deals: Couches, Tables, Lamps, and More

Presidents’ Day is perhaps best known for mattress deals, and there are indeed many good ones. But if you’re not in the market for a mattress this weekend, your next best bet is to get something else big for your home — a couch, rug, dining-room table, or office chair. A lot of big furniture and décor retailers are having sales on such items, with discounts of at least 20 percent, which, for big items, is a good deal — you’re often saving several hundred dollars. I scrolled through all of our favorite furniture and home-décor sites to find the best deals on the best items for every room of your home. And for even more good deals this weekend or otherwise, sign up for the Strategist Sales Alert.

Several couches we’ve written about are up to 45 percent off right now. The Article Sven sofa that several people with taste own is $400 off, and the brightly colored, petproof Joybird sofa another tasteful person recommends (for pet owners and parents) is almost $2,000 off. Also from Joybird: The Eliot sofa we first tested back in 2020 is now just over $1,500. And several of our favorite sofas from Crate & Barrel, West Elm, and Sixpenny, among others, have smaller but still worthy discounts of around 20 percent off — which is still several hundreds in savings.

Back in 2019, we asked designers about their favorite armchairs under $1,000, and Joybird’s Soto Chair is one of the only picks still available. It’s still under $1,000 today, too (surprising!), but it’s far cheaper right now at 40 percent off. I found a few other nice-looking armchairs from Strategist-approved brands, too, like an Article lounge chair for 30 percent off and a cozy-looking reading chair for $549 at Pottery Barn.

One of our favorite coffee tables (with hidden storage) is almost $150 off at West Elm, and an affordable set of side tables is now just $15 each. I found lots of other nice-looking coffee tables, side tables, and media consoles at brands we love.

There are a few very good deals on dining tables, and then plenty of pretty good ones. The very good ones: An extremely simple mid-century table from AllModern is now $229, and a large 90-inch table from CB2 is on clearance for $750, which is over 60 percent off (final sale, be advised). But I found lots of other attractive options for at least 20 percent off at West Elm, Target, Article, and more. (And for those who love color, consider Anthropologie’s now-under-$1,000 Winton table.)

Our best overall dining chair from Article isn’t on sale, but a few other Article seats are $40 to $80 off. Most of the other dining-chair deals I found have a similar discount — around 20 percent — but I did find a couple of slightly better deals, like a two-pack of Joybird’s cushioned chairs for less than $150 each and two vegan-leather AllModern chairs for $100 each.

The best bed-frame deal this weekend is on our best affordable bed frame, which is now almost half off at Wayfair — just $366. And while our best overall bed frame from Article, the Lenia, isn’t on sale, the king-size upholstered version of it is now under $1,000 (cheaper than the queen-size version) — a very good deal for anyone in the market for a king. Several more of our favorites are on sale right now, too, for around 20 to 30 percent off, which, as with couches, is still a savings of a couple hundred dollars.

I dug around West Elm, AllModern, Anthropologie, and more and found a mix of nightstands on sale, from classic mid-century options to pretty patterned ones.

Lots of our favorite bedding is on sale this weekend, most for a typical discount of 20 to 30 percent off. I’ve rounded up the best sheets and duvets on sale right now that we’ve written about. Of note: Brooklinen’s just-released spring colorways are part of its 20 percent off sale — I love the new green- and yellow-stripe options.

Only a few of the desks we’ve tested ourselves are on sale — including one of our favorite standing desks, though for a very small discount — but I found a few promising options at Article, Wayfair, and Pottery Barn that have better discounts.

Close to half of the office chairs we’ve tested are on sale this weekend, with the best deal being on our favorite colorful office chair from Autonomous and better-than-normal discounts on a folding office chair and the Pipersong chair for fidgeters. But I included all of our picks on sale, including a Branch chair that’s $30 off and a Herman Miller pick for 17 percent off.

A few of our favorite rug purveyors are having deals for the long weekend: Washable and easy-care rugs are 20 percent off at Revival Rugs; clearance rugs are up to 80 percent off at Rugs USA (and if you’re looking for multiple, use code PRESDAY for buy one, get one half off on rugs); select styles are up to 20 percent off at Ruggable, which makes the best washable rugs; and everything is at least 20 percent off at Serena & Lily and up to 25 percent off at Lulu & Georgia.

Lots of nice-looking options from West Elm, Crate & Barrel, Anthropologie, and more, including the fuzzy blanket Anthro employees buy in hordes with their employee discounts.

And finally, a few pretty lamps (for pretty good prices) from Pooky, Article, West Elm, and a few other favorite home-décor destinations.
